ShapeServices, creator of IM+ instant messenger, have just launched Skype for iPhone, a web-based interface to use Skype services from your iPhone. The application looks amazing, I tried even from Firefox using my Skype account just curious to see the quality and it was great. After login you can call your friends, or landline number if you have skype credits. The application is written in JSP, but seems under high load currently.

Mark Lucovsky, Software Engineer Google, pushed a new sample of Google AJAX search for iPhone. The code provides an AJAX interface for Google search, image, news and blogs that anyone can use, clone, modify … etc. To make Google AJAX Search suitable for iPhone, Mark said that they :

• Used the Raw Searcher Layer which is fully documented and is the base layer used in all of our advanced search controls
• Followed the iPhone web-development guidelines published by Apple
• Designed the sample to be readable on the 320×480 device without the need for excessive zooming
• Positioned the various controls to account for the size and accuracy of the human finger
• Took advantage of the fact that the iPhone keyboard will adapt itself to the “type” of input control (note the search button in the bottom right of the keyboard)
• Used an appropriate link target to ensure that links open on a new page leaving the search page intact and ready for another search
